A specific field
Media and Communication sciences is an interdisciplinary field that draws upon methodologies and theoretical framework from both the social sciences (sociology, political science, psychology) and humanities (literature, philosophy, history).
Its particularity is to focus on the systematic study of communication processes and media technologies, from interpersonal interaction to global mass media and digital networks, and their multifaceted reception and effects on individuals, groups, and societies.
From Social Sciences : It adopts rigorous, empirical methods to understand media’s social functions, economic structures, and psychological effects.
From Humanities : It employs critical and interpretive approaches to examine the meaning, form, and cultural role of media texts and narratives .
The discipline seeks to both explain the processes of communication and interpret the content and contexts through which human meaning is created and shared.
Social media like you’ve never seen them
The purpose of my research is to analyse the data of platforms such as TikTok, in order to understand how users react to certain types of content.
This gave me a completely different vision of this simple app that ones use everyday without any ideas of what is really happening.
With my academic route, I’m getting a new understanding of communication tools and I must share it with you!
